In accordance with the principles laid out in the Bologna Agreements, studying languages is part of “Transversal skills and knowledge development”.
Aware of the importance of communication in the context of globalisation, BBI places emphasis on linguistic skills in its teaching programmes. As our teaching programmes are carried out in English, students must have good understanding of the language. Each candidate must undergo a language assessment.
English is the undoubted “Lingua Franca” in the world of business and is the language of communication within the multinationals, while being the language of choice for the majority of economics and management publications.
For European students who are not English mother tongue, basic knowledge acquired during high school studies (English as a second language), is generally enough to be able to start the undergraduate programme. Teaching is structured to ensure that students learn English to an advanced level through the different subjects. This is why our students master written and spoken English by the end of their studies.
TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication
During each academic year, BBI offers to all students a unique opportunity to participate to this test and have an important recognition on their CV.

The measure of success in the global workplace
For more than 25 years the Test of English for International Communication has been used to measure the ability of non-native English-speaking people to use English in everyday work activities. With more than 3 million test takers per year, the TOEIC test is the standard for workplace English language proficiency worldwide. It measures their English comprehension, speaking, writing and reading skills in an international environment. The scores indicate how well people can communicate in English with others in business, commerce and industry. |
There are no prerequisites for taking language classes (Spanish,
French). Classes are streamed and put the emphasis
on oral and then written communication.
Depending
on the number of students, we also offer Chinese
and Japanese language classes as options.
For language classes, we work in partnership with a specialised institute: “CLL – Langue Centre – Under the patronage of “Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL)”.
